Summer is here and most of us want to be outside, enjoying the sun and the breeze. Outdoor activity provides many benefits, for both your physical self and mental health. However, any amount of outdoor time can take a toll on the skin. And since your face is generally naked 24/7, it takes the brunt of the damage. There are a few products you need to have on hand at all times to help calm your skin and keep your face looking youthful and beautiful.
Summer time can dry out your skin and leave scaly, itchy patches on your face. Before you can treat your face to protect from damage, you should repair the damage that has already taken place. A visit to your esthetician is invaluable. He or she can make recommendations for your particular skin concern. You can then receive an in-salon treatment to restore your soft, smooth skin. Your esthetician may also recommend products that you can use daily to protect your skin from further damage.
Moisturizer may sound like a common product that everyone uses. Not so. Some women with oily skin feel that they don’t need moisturizer; it’s just going to make their face more oily. This is not necessarily true. Sometimes, the root cause of oily skin is a lack of moisture, and the face over-produces oil trying to rectify the problem. A good oil-free moisturizer can solve this problem. Other ladies skip the moisturizer, as they believe they are too young to need it. This isn’t the case, either. Moisturizer isn’t meant only to smooth wrinkles. Moisturizer keeps your facial skin soft and youthful, so it looks younger longer.
This is another common sense product that gets overlooked by many. Those with darker skin, and those who rarely burn in the sun may be more relaxed about making sure they use sunscreen. However, everyone needs to protect themselves from harmful UVA and UVB rays from the sun. A good sunscreen with a high SPF protection rating will protect your skin and keep sun spots, freckles, moles and cancerous cells from forming on the surface of your skin.
If the dry, hot summer air has dried out your skin and your moisturizer hasn’t been used nearly enough to combat the warmth, make sure to get rid of any dry patches on your face with a gentle exfoliator. It’s best to use one without synthetic beads, as they can be harsh and are also incredibly harmful to and pollute the environment. Go with something that is beadless or enzyme-based; you can easily find one at a spa as they will always have products similar to those they use during facials. Getting rid of that layer of dried dead skin cells will also help other nourishing skin products be absorbed into your skin easier.
Your skin is only as good as the manner in which you take care of it. If you treat it well when you are young, you will notice less wrinkles and age spots as you grow in years. And proper skin maintenance takes mere minutes a day.
