Coco Chanel once said, “The best color is the one that looks best on you. Never were words more true. As a hair dresser my clients are always asking me what colors are in and what is happening with hair. They want to know the latest trends so they can plan their look for the season. The great thing about the current trends in hair and hair color is that there are no hard fast rules except for one; choose a style and color that flatters you the most.
With the recent recession, the demand for low maintenance came into fashion and the ombre was born. Actually, we have been doing variations of the ombre, it just had a different name and was less dramatic. While we are seeing pops of pastels, the average woman is wearing those shades with elegance and reservation. They are asking for something fun that they can hide or blend when they go to work. In some ways they have it all. They have the beauty of color with the beauty of simplicity.
Another trend that is coming back is texture. Women are celebrating texture and waves, soft waves that look like they jut stepped off the beach. Braids are accenting hair styles and in some cases they are the style. Braids are classic and timeless. Remember when Jennifer Aniston wore her hair slightly wavy with a simple accent braid to the Oscars? It was organic and free flowing and that is why we loved that style. We are no longer wearing pin straight flat hair.
The trendiest hair style is the one that looks best on you and your hair type. As a hair dresser, I train my eye to see what works with your skin and your face to shape to enhance the beauty that is you. We are all unique and the current trends are truly allowing that to happen. The only hard fast rule to the current trends is not to look like your high school yearbook.
