Sleep is important for health, but it can be hard to get the right amount of good sleep. Finding ways to create good sleep habits will not only make you healthier, but will leave you feeling refreshed the next morning.
Give yourself time to wind down from the day.
Before it’s time to get into bed, stop drinking caffeine, turn off the TV, and start settling down for the night. Spend some time reading or listening to relaxing music. This will help calm your mind before you get into bed and try to go to sleep.
Keep electronic devices outside of the bedroom.
Though you may use your phone as a clock and alarm, keep the TV out of your bedroom, and don’t stream shows or play on your phone when it’s time to go to bed. Electronic devices are a distraction that not only keep you up later, but keep your mind from relaxing before bed. So even when you fall asleep, you don’t get as good sleep.
Keep your schedule consistent.
Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time each day, even on the weekends. When you create a consistent sleep routine, using the same times each day, your body adjusts to the sleep schedule. That way, when it’s time to go to sleep, your body begins to feel tired, and when it’s time to wake up, your body will start waking before your alarm.
Whether you’re an early riser or a night owl, you can find ways to get better sleep and wake up more refreshed. Creating healthy habits will not only benefit your health, but will make sure you start off your day the right way every day.
