Students, parents, and 9-to-5ers alike are just itching to get away. Spring Break promises a respite from the bitter cold into warmer, sunnier places. One problem: those New Year’s resolutions. If your fitness resolution still stands and you’re envisioning a bikini body by June, you’ll want to have a plan for your quick getaway. Don’t let your Spring Break vacation undermine the hard work you’ve put in with gym workouts and Sunday meal preps. Try these simple strategies to stay fit.
Consider a health and fitness holiday; it’s the perfect 2-for-1. You can enjoy a break away while taking the week to enhance your physical fitness or discover your inner Zen. Yoga and meditation retreats, mountain and forest outdoor adventures, or fitness boot camp experiences are all great ways to spend your holiday.
One Drink Minimum
If you and your friends are headed to a party on the beach, set your limits before you get there. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the music or the peer pressure and drink your daily calorie goal in alcohol or soda. Set your standards beforehand, spread the word, and find an accountability partner. Stick with red wine, light beer, or rum and diet soda. Otherwise, sip on water with lemon.
Move Your Body
Although lazing about with a book or magazine might sound idyllic, your best bet is to stay active as much as possible—especially if you have been indulgent with foods or alcohol on vacation. Play a round of beach volleyball. Hike to a waterfall. Or, simply grab a friend, turn up the stereo, and dance your heart out.
