When you think of starting a new exercise regimen, you’re probably more inclined to wait until January at this point. After all, the holidays are a eventful time, and with New Year’s resolutions coming sooner than later, you might as well join the throng of gymgoers next year, right?

If you have 10 minutes to spare this month, then you can still exercise. Yes, even if you’re booked solid with holiday parties, cooking and baking, shopping, and other events. You just need to do the Holiday Streakin’ Fitness Challenge.

Okay…What Is the Holiday Streakin’ Fitness Challenge?

The Holiday Streakin’ Fitness Challenge was coined by Nourish Wellness’ Dr. Yami Cazorla-Lancaster in Yakima, Washington. If you’re based in the Yakima area, there are real signup sheets and everything so you can commit to this challenge. If you’re located anywhere else, you’re still free to follow along.

The challenge is simple: take 25 days in which you spend 10 minutes exercising. Seriously, that’s it. Ideally, it’s best if you begin at the start of the month, but even if you miss the first few days, you can still finish the challenge.

How Do You Do It?

This part is simple, too: just get outside (or inside, whichever you prefer) and get moving! Dr. Cazorla-Lancaster wasn’t specific about which types of activities should comprise that 10 minutes. What matters most is that you’re exercising.

Here are a few ideas you can try:

  • Put on an exercise video and follow along
  • Stretch and do some yoga
  • Take a short walk, or—if you’re feeling up to it—a run
  • Do some cardio activities that require no equipment, such as jumping jacks, squats, sit-ups, and crunches

If you do cardio, gradually increase the amount of reps you do. You might even incorporate weights at some point for an additional challenge.

Dr. Cazorla-Lancaster says that while the weather can put the “challenge” in Holiday Streakin’ Challenge this time of year, as long as you’re versatile and have indoor exercise alternatives, the cold shouldn’t deter you.

When Does It Start?

As mentioned, the Holiday Streakin’ Challenge ideally starts on December 1st. If you’re in Yakima, that is most certainly when it begins. It runs through Christmas.
