The term “beauty sleep” isn’t just a meaningless idiom. In a very real sense, sleep does help you retain and gain beauty. There is evidence that adequate beauty sleep—between 7 and 9 hours each night—enables your body and mind to rejuvenate itself. During restful sleep, your body produces collagen, enhances circulation, and restores and repairs itself. Without sufficient sleep, you may suffer from dark circles under your eyes, impaired cognitive function and more. If you struggle with getting adequate sleep, here are four aids to help you get your beauty sleep.
1. My Pillow
The My Pillow is designed to retain its shape and structure no matter how you may toss and turn during the night. According to the manufacturer, instead of going flat like many other pillows, the My Pillow holds its shape, which ultimately may translate into a better night’s rest.
Whether you opt for a full body massage, a hand or foot massage or a face and neck massage, the results will be a more relaxed you. Your salon likely offers one or more of these options. The beauty of massage is, you don’t have to get one right before bedtime. Regular massages can help you to feel less tense overall, which will help you to fall asleep more quickly and easier than ever before.
3. Scented Sleep Mask
Your body falls asleep easier when there is an absence of light. If your bedroom isn’t dark enough, try using a sleep mask to keep out unwanted light. For even better results, opt for a scented sleep mask using essential oils. Lavender, in particular, is known to have a relaxing effect. Just dap one or two drops of lavender essential oil on the outside of your sleep mask for a relaxing scent as you slumber off.
4. Melatonin Supplements
Melatonin is a substance that your body produces naturally to help you nod off to sleep. As you age, your body produces less melatonin. However, you can take a melatonin supplement that your body can use to achieve the same effect. Unlike sleeping pills, melatonin supplements don’t put you to sleep or make you feel groggy the next day. They simply work gently to indicate to your brain that it’s time to sleep.
Don’t waste one more night unnecessarily tossing and turning. Try one or more of these aids to help you get a restful night of sleep.
