New season, new ‘do. If you have been looking for hair color inspiration, here’s what we’ve been seeing a lot of — and loving — for spring 2018 hair colors.
This rich purple hue was nominated Pantone’s color of the year, and what better way to show it off than on your locks? Ultraviolet purple hair catches the light and shines with intensity. To get long-lasting purple, ask your stylist to bleach your hair first, and then apply the purple color.
Salt and Pepper
This is not for the faint of heart — or those with fear of aging. Salt and pepper hair looks like what you’d expect, with dark black roots and pale grey, almost platinum on top. Have your stylist bleach and tone highlights while leaving the base layer alone or adding lowlights to darken the contrast.
It’s unexpected but it works: This look pairs mauve pink highlights with rich brown natural hair. It’s a nice way to work in Millennial pink for the hair while adding a different dimension of highlights than you’d get with blonde locks. If your natural hue is pale brown, why not go full mauve for a rose gold effect for your hair?
Grey hair is so 2017. This year, it’s all about icy, pale whites that sparkle under the light. Your stylist will need to bleach your locks, then tone out the color to get the perfect platinum blend. It takes a lot of effort — and a ton of touch-ups to keep this bright white hue looking its best — but done well, it is worth it!
Tawny brown and gold tones shimmer and catch the light when applied in a bayalage technique. The tiger’s eye look blends different hues of brown, caramel, and blonde for a style that’s unique, playful, and flatters different complexions. When applied as an ombre look instead, the style is a bit more layered. Have your stylist subtly alter the colors in ombre so it the fade from brown to blonde is subtle.
