The Story of the Jack-o-Lantern
Jack-o-lanterns are a tradition brought to North America by Irish settlers, and the festive gourd’s origin comes from a folk tale. The Irish legend tells the story of Stingy Jack, who played a trick on the devil. For his deceit, Jack was doomed to wander the earth forever. Ever the mischief-maker, Jack is said to use his lantern to lure travelers away from their path.
